Project Purpose
The City of South Bend made improvements to the Ford Street-Walnut Street intersection to promote safety, calm traffic, reduce unnecessary pavement, and encourage residential investment.
Project Scope
Improvements will be made to the intersection and areas immediately adjoining it. Planned work includes
The realignment of curbs,
Installation of a speed hump,
Replacement of sidewalk and curb ramps,
Limited replacement of driveway approaches,
Street paving, and
Street trees and sod.
Project Schedule
Construction began July 6, 2023, and has been completed.
Property Access
The intersection will close during construction, but to the degree possible, access to properties will be maintained throughout the project. Use of driveway approaches will be restricted during removal, installation, and the curing period after installation. Every effort will be made to minimize interruption to property access for residents and deliveries.
