Project Purpose
As part of its implementation of the Potawatomi Park concepts contained in the River Park Neighborhood Plan, the City of South Bend will be making streetscape improvements to Greenlawn Avenue and Wall Street to improve park access and traffic safety.
Project Scope
Improvements are planned to
Greenlawn Avenue, between Southwood Avenue and Wall Street, and
Wall Street, between Greenlawn Avenue and Ironwood Drive.
Planned work includes
Replacement of curbs, sidewalks, and driveway approaches, as necessary
Addition of new sidewalk on Wall Street and the east side of Greenlawn Avenue
Raised intersections or crossings with corner pedestrian safety bumpouts
Neighborhood traffic circle at Greenlawn Avenue-Wall Street intersection
Median refuge island for two-stage pedestrian crossing of Ironwood Drive at Wall Street
Additional public parking for park users
Street repaving
Street trees
Project Schedule
Construction is anticipated to begin in early summer 2025, with substantial completion of the work occurring by mid-fall.
Property Access
The project streets will be closed, in phases, to through traffic during construction. To the greatest practical degree, local access to properties will be maintained throughout the project. Use of driveway approaches will be restricted during removal, installation, and the curing period after installation. Every effort will be made to minimize interruption to property access for residents, customers, employees, and deliveries.
