Project Purpose

The City of South Bend has made improvements to the Longfellow Avenue-South Street-Twyckenham Drive intersection to promote safety, further calm traffic, reduce unnecessary pavement, and encourage residential investment.


Project Scope

Improvements have been made to the intersection and areas immediately adjoining it. Work included

  • The realignment of curbs,
  • Replacement of sidewalk and curb ramps,
  • Limited replacement of driveway approaches,
  • Street paving, and
  • Street trees and sod.



Project Schedule

The project has been completed.



Property Access

The intersection will close during construction, but to the degree possible, access to properties will be maintained throughout the project. Use of driveway approaches will be restricted during removal, installation, and the curing period after installation. Every effort will be made to minimize interruption to property access for residents and deliveries.
