Project Purpose

As part of its implementation of the Kennedy Park Neighborhood Plan, the City of South Bend will be making streetscape improvements to Linden Avenue in coordination with the Martin Luther King, Jr., Dream Center project. The project aims to encourage commercial and residential investment, promote safety, and calm traffic.

Project Scope

Improvements are planned to Linden Avenue between College and Birdsell Streets. Planned work includes

  • Replacement of curbs and sidewalks,
  • Raised intersections with pedestrian safety bumpouts,
  • Street paving,
  • Decorative street lighting, and
  • Street trees.

Project Schedule

Construction began March 18, 2024, with substantial completion planned by October 2024.

Property Access

The street will close during construction, but to the degree possible, access to properties will be maintained throughout the project. Every effort will be made to minimize interruption to property access for residents, customers, employees, and deliveries.
