Project Purpose
The City of South Bend has made streetscape improvements to LaSalle Avenue to encourage investment, promote safety, calm traffic, and expand the active transportation network.
Project Scope
Streetscape enhancements were made to LaSalle Avenue between the St. Joseph River and Eddy Street. The scope is as follows:
St. Joseph River to Hill Street (Primary Project Area)
- Replacement of curbs, sidewalks, driveway approaches, and street paving
- Addition of on-street parking
- Raised intersections with corner pedestrian safety bumpouts
- Trail crossings with median refuges
- Protected bike lanes
- Pedestrian-scale ornamental lighting
- Street trees
Hill Street to Eddy Street (Secondary Project Area)
- Protected bike lanes west of Notre Dame Avenue
- Street paving
- Revisions to lane striping
