Tuesday March 24, 2026, 5:00pm
MLK Dream Center, 1522 Linden Avenue

Project Purpose

The City of South Bend will be making improvements to College Street that expand the trail system; provide safer walking and biking routes; and improve connectivity within the city’s active transportation network.

Project Scope

The Coal Line Phase III Project adds a shared use trail along the west side of College Street between Linden and Lincoln Way West. When complete, the project will connect to the remainder of the trail between Lincolnway/Wilbur and State Route 933

The project is expected to include:

  • 11 ft concrete surface shared use trail appears as a wide sidewalk
    • Trail features raised pedestrian crossings and bumpouts at intersections
  • Replacement of curbs and active driveway approaches.
  • Street paving and/or brick surface restoration
  • Pedestrian-scale ornamental lighting
  • Street trees.
  • Street furniture and signage

Project Schedule

Construction is tentatively planned to begin in spring 2027 with work complete later that year.

Property Access

College Street will experience limited restrictions, but to the degree possible, access to properties will be maintained throughout the project. Use of driveway approaches will be restricted during removal, installation, and the concrete curing period after installation. Every effort will be made to minimize interruption to property access for residents.
